Brazilian rosewood '79 Orozco classical guitar for sale

Our featured guitar of the month is a 1979 Juan Orozco classical guitar made of fine Brazilian rosewood.  Our sale price is $2200.

The guitar is made in Japan, commissioned by Juan Orozco himself, after being impressed by the work of luthiers of Kohno guitars. Juan Orozco lived in New York from 1965 to 1995, where he had a famous guitar shop at 156, 56th Street in the 1970s to 1990s.  According to Wikipedia, Orozco

is the third in a family of guitar makers (his father, Juan Orozco, built guitars in Spain, Uruguay and Brazil). He was actively involved in the development of classic guitars in the mid-1970s (starting as early as 1969) together with great Japanese luthiers like Matsuoka, Tamura, and Yairi, who then developed guitars for Tama, Ibanez, and Aria (at that time the small workshop where they worked was in the company Hoshino Gakki who own Tama and Ibanez). They also built guitars in the Kohno-Sakurai style (models #8, #10, #15) that were sold with the "Juan Orozco, Luthier" label. Later the Orozco guitars were equipped with a very characteristic headstock, different from the Fleta-style headstocks they had first. In the majority of user reviews, the majestic volume and sonorous bass sound of Juan Orozco guitars are emphasised.

The guitar for sale is the #15 model - it has a spruce top, and Brazilian rosewood sides and back (specifically used for this rare model No.15).  You can smell the sweetness of the wood from inside the rosetta, also a sign that the rosewood is authentic.

Master luthier Juan Orozco is no longer actively building guitars, making this beautiful instrument a collector’s item.

As you probably know, Brazilian rosewood guitars are a rare item, and rosewood-made guitar prices have recently gone through the roof due to the rigorous environmental controls on this type of wood by the Brazilian government.  This guitar was made before the environmental controls went into effect - but rosewood, especially Brazilian rosewood, has historically been the raw material of choice among luthiers worldwide until this point because of the rich, mellow sound that it produces.

This is a concert guitar par excellence: it has a beautifully rich, full, mellow, resonant sound that is simply ambrosia for the ears.

This guitar has been cared for by the original owner and is in pristine condition. The hard shell case is included.

The price of the guitar has been recently reduced due to weak demand in North America, making this even more of a tremendous value to classical guitar enthusiasts!

If you would like to meet to arrange a time to try out this guitar, you can reach me via email at rwiegs@comcast.net   I am located just north of New Haven, CT.

Thank you for your interest and consideration.
